Learning Disabilities

In the past I have worked in day centres, residential settings and other locations as a carer for people with learning disabilities and physical disabilities, as well as a visiting workshop leader and regular workshop facilitator.
I currently run three weekly groups in Lewes for the Oyster Project Charity.
I can provide weekly  or one off projects in:
  • Art/craft
  • Drama/puppetry/dance
  • Well-being/mindful movement
We had an exhibition this summer in Lewes as part of Artwave festival showing the work of the art and drama group.
The drama group is currently rehearsing A Midsummer Night's Dream, which features dance and ultra violet puppets made by the group.
The well-being group explores mindfulness and other forms of meditation such as visualization, as well as discussing topics such as 'the labels we are given and that we give ourselves ' we do mindful movement and look at other health topics such as eating well and developing self esteem.

Puppets

Puppetry is not just for children, (as some people believe). It is a powerful medium bringing alive our imagination. It is a fantastic way to communicate with people who have no speech, or communicate in their own ways, even people with severe disabilities can communicate through puppets. This can be a useful tool to strengthen relationships between service users and between carers and service users.

Art & Craft

I have experience of working with all sorts of abilities and enjoy facilitating the creative process and self expression with everyone. I strongly believe that everyone has an artist within, no matter what a person's disabilities maybe. It's a matter of providing the right environment, medium and encouragement for the artist to emerge and through this a wonderful feeling of self expression.

I can run art and craft workshops alone, or as part of a drama and dance group.
